“Creative and flowing yoga to appreciate the beauty of movement.”

julia2Julia Symington

My first yoga class in the early 80s was a revelation. I finally felt connected to my body and at ease after attempting so many different physical activities. My body became stronger, more flexible and much easier to live in and I started to shed the many excess kilos I had been carrying.

The physical ease was just the start of my yoga journey. Yoga changed the way I wanted to live and I realised I needed more meaning and depth in my life. As my passion for yoga developed, I farewelled the corporate world in 1995 and embraced my new career as a yoga teacher.

I trained under the Iyengar yoga system, which gave me a detailed understanding of postures, how to sequence them for maximum benefit and how to use props to support and open students. The training and accreditation process was thorough, rigorous and rewarding. This discipline and attention to detail, combined with many years of practice and broader study, provide a wonderful foundation on which to build.

As a natural corollary to my yoga, I have sought teaching on spirituality and find myself bringing a lot of this knowledge into my yoga practice, making for meaningful yoga classes that are deeply personal, fluid and expressive. I find delight in providing an environment where each person’s inner self can emerge in classes.

The symphisis between mind and body  is a philosophy and lifestyle that nurtures, nourishes and supports me as I ride the roller coaster called life. As I grow on my journey so does my yoga and what I have to pass on.

Yoga feeds my creative spirit and I love staying fresh in my approach, sharing my knowledge and understanding with students.

My aim is to teach with spirit and with empathy – because it is your body that matters.

Each of us has to find the yoga pathway that’s right for us and my role is to respectfully guide students in the direction that’s right for them. It is incredibly rewarding to encourage students to develop – physically, mindfully and spiritually.

Student’s recent comments include:

“Julia teaches with empathy for each student. She is encouraging and supportive.”

“I trust Julia and her teaching.”

“I love the level of energy in Julia’s classes.”

“The visualisation Julia uses in her classes takes my yoga to a much deeper level.”

“I enjoy the connection with, and support of other students.”

“I always learn something new at Julia’s classes.”

“While running a class of many people, Julia always knows precisely where each and every individual within that class is at and makes sure that the class is right for them.”
