The studio is always open at least 15 minutes before class. Why not take time to distance yourself from the hustle and bustle of daily life by arriving 5 – 10 minutes early. Yoga is the special treat you give yourself so don’t miss out by being late. This also gives you time to give your teacher an update on any changes in your physical or emotional wellbeing.
PLEASE DO TELL your teacher BEFORE class if:
- you have an injury or medical condition
- you are pregnant
- you are menstruating
- you have high blood pressure or
- there is anything else that may effect your yoga.
This is important because it may be inappropriate for you to practice some yoga poses and there may be lots of others that are much better suited for you at the moment. Remember you are the most important person in the class.
What to wear
That’s simple – clothing that is comfortable and you can easily move in. Your body temperature will change during the class, so layers of light clothing are a great idea. Shorts or leggings and a T shirt work well.
Bare feet help you to stretch your tootsies and discover all the different muscles in your feet – they do such a good job of carrying us around – give them a treat too. (Oh we only like the clean feet at the studio please.) Jewellery generally just gets in the way, so keep it simple or even better, leave it at home.
Eating
Eating is one of life’s necessities and can be such a pleasure – but you’ll enjoy your yoga class so much more if you have an empty stomach. If you do need to eat something, have a small amount and something easy to digest. If you’ve had a big meal, it’s best to wait 3-4 hours. Digestion uses a lot of energy and you need that energy while you are practicing yoga.
What to bring to class
You don’t need to bring anything – just yourself. But if you have your own mat, you are welcome and encouraged to bring it to class. Any other equipment that is used in class to support or open your body is provided at Symphisis Yoga.
